About Dr Isla Garraway
Dr Isla Garraway is a Professor and Director of Research in Urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is also a staff urologist and Principal Investigator in the Veterans Administration (VA) Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, where she leads efforts within the Precision Oncology Program for Prostate Cancer. Dr Garraway is a member of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Broad Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research.
A surgeon-scientist, Dr Garraway leads a basic/translational science laboratory that is focused on characterizing molecular, cellular and microenvironmental interactions associated with metastatic prostate cancer. In addition to her clinical work, she leads research and clinical operations projects in prostate cancer, with a focus on understanding etiologies of prostate cancer disparities. Her research efforts analyzing the landscape of somatic tumor alterations in patients diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer also include experience with phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) gene sequencing in the VA patient populations.
Dr Garraway has received several prestigious awards, including the Donald S. Coffey Career Development Award, the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Young Investigator and Challenge Awards and awards from the STOP Cancer Foundation and the Margaret E. Early Foundation.
